Job Ready Program Delays. How to get your skills assessment in time!

With Trades Recognition Australia’s recent announcement on extended processing times for the Job Ready Program (JRP) as of February 2024, it’s clear that applicants face longer waits. These delays highlight the critical need for strategic preparation in your migration journey, especially for vocational graduates aiming to launch their careers in Australia.

Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA) Up to 5 months RTO will reach out within 60 days after submission post-December 2023.
Job Ready Final Assessment Up to 1.5 months
General Document Processing Up to 2.5 months

These extended times necessitate starting your job-ready employment application while still studying. This proactive approach facilitates a smoother transition from education to employment, critically reducing the impact of these delays on your pathway to residency in Australia.

What can you do to get your skills assessment quicker?

The Job Ready program can start as early as when you finish your qualifying course. This is different for all occupations and in some cases, you could be able to apply while you still have a year left on your student visa. Begin gathering required documents and information as soon as possible to meet TRA deadlines. For example, if you’re enrolled to study a Certificate IV in Kitchen Management (Chef) and Diploma in Hospitality, you could apply as soon as you’ve finished the Certificate IV in Kitchen Management (Chef) and while you still have 12 months left on your visa. This will then allow you to undertake all the other steps sooner. Also ensure all documents submitted are accurate, complete, and meet TRA’s requirements. This includes educational transcripts, certificates, and employment evidence.

It’s also important to 1st secure a suitable job in your field of stud and then let your employer know the steps of the job ready program in advance. Keep track of your work hours and responsibilities for the Job Ready Employment component.
